Our Beloved Buttercup...
We had no idea 9 months ago our little Buttercup got bred considering she was only 4 months old. We have never heard of a calf getting bred that young, but unfortunately she did. We discovered this bad news about a month ago. Knowing she was probably to small to birth, but hopeful because our other two cows had very small babies.
I had other plans on mother's day, but things on a farm dictate to what really happens in life.
Our little Buttercup decided to go into labor.
She seemed to be doing pretty good all day, until evening, we just knew something was wrong.
We ended up having a very long day/night and she just couldn't pass the baby. We are so grateful to our neighbors who very kindly gave up their evening to help us try to get the calf out. We pulled for hours to not avail. We were to the point where we needed to make a hard decision, to put her down or go C-section. We decided among our family that it would be best to take her in for a C-section. Chances were very much against her the vet said, being a Jersey (so fragile), but she was a very strong little girl and did very well, considering the stress she was under and what she had been through. She did great until the doc was sewing her up, gave out a moo and just let go...it was just to much.
We went through a lot from the very beginning with this girl, keeping her alive for the first 2 months of her life here on the farm, grafting her onto Rose, all to say goodbye to early.
We love her and she will always be in our memory.
Blessings,
Joyful Mother
