beautiful november

she thought she could go potty outside

The days are growing shorter, leaves are covering the ground like natures blanket, vibrant colors, a mixture of rainy and cool days.  While we've had plenty of inside play while its been cold and rainy, getting outside today was the perfecting ending to the week.

I think as mama something I always think about is our days and how good of a steward I'm being over mine and my kiddies time.  Jer and I've been talking of how society raises one to believe they must get up and pretty quickly get ready for your day, fill your time, be successful, keep busy, be perfect.  I don't know about you, but I'm just not built like that.  I've tried for years to figure out how to get up early and get myself going(and not be tired), but I have truly failed.  I'm a terribly unhappy person pushing myself and my family to this rhythm, a rhythm that was never made for our home.  Not really understanding why this was in me, I've been trying to make myself into something I'm not.

I've wrote and rewrote our daily rhythm so many times with the wrong expection.  A "universal" expection, not a personal family expection.  The bible talks about a time and seaon for everthing ~

To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven:

A time to be born,

And a time to die;
A time to plant,
And a time to pluck what is planted;

A time to kill,

And a time to heal;
A time to break down,
And a time to build up;

A time to weep,

And a time to laugh;
A time to mourn,
And a time to dance;

A time to cast away stones,

And a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace,
And a time to refrain from embracing;

A time to gain,

And a time to lose;
A time to keep,
And a time to throw away;

A time to tear,

And a time to sew;
A time to keep silence,
And a time to speak;

A time to love,

And a time to hate;
A time of war,
And a time of peace.

In the warmer months we enjoy getting up and doing more activities, but now that is colder we're enjoying slow days...extreamly slow days.  I've written out a rhythm that suits me and my family, and I feel very confident and peaceful about this new rhythm.  So while most of the world is pining away being "sucessfull" we're being our own kind of sucessful.  Spending time playing games, reading books, drinking tea, baking, talking, listening, enjoying slow meals around our table.  We do stick to some main lessons, mostly though we do "real life" schooling or what some call "unschooling".

I hope you are finding what works for you and your family and are enjoying living a life worthy of what you are called to.  I hope you are finding what makes your home thrive not strive and are brave enough to accept what that is and make that a priority.

Peace,
Lanie
