How we homeschool and bear bread

We've started our study on hibernation, migration, and adaptation.  The boys were thrilled and enjoyed the first week so much.  For lessons we care about three things above all else...reading, writing, and arithmetic, of which we use Christian Light Education for reading and writing.  Teaching Textbooks for math(third grade and above).  Under third grade does book work, mainly because they don't offer that young of grade, but also I think it a good idea for mom to help lay the foundation for good math skills.  Adding in science through a "unit study" approach and history though "real books".  Art is a passion in our home, so no formal lessons there.  I'm hoping to add in maybe some art hub just for fun.  We've never checked it out, but I'm going to be doing that this next week.  Also a foreign language ~ maybe ASL or Spanish, or both!

We do a family devotion each morning and a "big" kid science and history through you tube.  Jeremy does those when he's home, otherwise if its just me we only do a devotion.

Of course we read a lot of real books about everything, and the big kids do their own reading(good books).  Josiah(16) has quite a bit more formal lessons than the others, being in high school.  Some given by me, some by his choice.  He enjoys learning through reading, so he'll sit and read through a text book by choice!  He was a very hard one when younger, but now he's motivated and that makes things so much easier!!

Here I am with Ephraim(7) doing reading and math

Makayla(11) wasn't really a part of the study OR the making of the bread, but she can't help herself!

I get to knit during lessons.  I'm almost done with Ellies vest!

We've chosen bears to trail off in to through our hibernation study.  They got to make bread for the first time this week and enjoyed that.  Although they added WAY to much flour! I think they mostly got to enjoy eating alll the bread after it was baked.  Easy lunch for me ;)

We are a very relaxed homeschool.  I say that to say, I had planned to get through hibernation in a week...that did not happen...and that's ok.  We'll do some animals this next week, because ~ boys!  They would probable hang out studying animals all life long.

Blessings,
Lanie
