fermenting || homeschool and dreaming

Jeremy and I...and Ellie made sauerkraut.  I have such mixed feeling about this, as I have yet to make any that I truly like.  Some things I will do differently next time ~ purchase a couple weights, as I feel this will make keeping the kraut under the brine easier.  I won't grate the cabbage, I'll chop it into slivers, but bigger than the grater.  I feel that the grater gets the cabbage to fine.  I've had Bubbies sauerkraut and love it, so that is my goal, as lofty as it may seem.

Fun times are being had, going through out hibernating and Canada study.  I had planned to go straight into studying a bit about each hibernating animal, which we did go into bears, and opening it up to study some Geography through Canada, has only helped our bear study.  It's taking longer than I thought, of which we aren't sad about.  Somehow we discovered a man by the name of Shawn James  My Self Reliance on you tube. It's been wonderful to say the least.  He's from Canada, and has built, by only hand tools and himself, a cabin, among other structures.  We aren't much of a fast paced family and enjoy watching "the cabin guy" as we all call him, together a couple evenings a week.  He has enriched our Canada study for sure!

Jesse may just be a chef in the making!  He blesses our family with home cooked breakfasts and chili.  He's the voice of ideas in my head, helping me decide what we should eat for dinner.  As mama and meal planner, I would have to say it gets tiring to come up with all the meals for this ten person family.  It's always nice when he comes up with an idea, and of course extra nice when he wants to pitch in and help fix it.

We took a very short and much needed night at the cabin, as you may of saw on the you tube channel.  Jeremy and I are getting maybe a bit to inspired by "the cabin guy" ;)))
We are, or maybe more me rather, are making many plans and dreaming of large possibilities in the not so distant future!  When Jeremy starts dreaming he goes to the moon and back, where I stay a bit smaller, so we'll see where all of our dreaming takes us.

Blessings,
Lanie
